Our work as anti-racist leaders in SURJ requires that we strive to confront, disrupt, and dismantle white supremacy. But what about internalized white supremacy? How can do we even begin to confront what we've internalized?
During April's mass meeting we'll build common understanding of internalized racist oppression (IRO) and internalized racist superiority (IRS), and how People of Color and white people are socialized to support and maintain white supremacy culture. We'll explore how internalized white supremacy manifests in our own lives and in society at large. Most importantly, we'll ask the question, “In what ways does does this prevent People of Color and white people from building a strong collective movement against white supremacy?”
This is an important mass meeting for all SURJ leaders, and a great one to bring a friend or family member who has never attended before.
Please let us know if you need childcare and we will make sure adequate coverage is available.
*If this is your first SURJ event, please attend SURJ 101 from 6:30-7pm.*
