THE MOVEMENT WITHIN
I imagine what it would be like to be inside my paintings, whisked into a world of bright colors, textures, organic shapes and repeating patterns. Throughout these elusive landscapes, fluid brush strokes dance next to delicate details and distinctive lines. Inspiration is absorbed through the never ending supply from the natural world. My exploration has lead to an ongoing series revolving around the intricacies of patterns in nature, specifically enthralled by the markings and coloring of birds and fish. Combing this visual dialog, while exploring the contrast between fluid space vs structure and color vs line, resulting in somewhat surreal environments.
A parade of pastel marks or stealthy placements of colored pencil interweave itself with the paint, filling my need for mark making. I tend to favor one or two colors to act as a dramatic force that pulses through the work. Intuition and curiosity lead the way. With patience the piece slowly reveals itself to me. There is an internal motion that subconsciously moves throughout the work. I feel as if the piece was animated the imagery would kinda just dance off the paper! I never know exactly what the final outcome will be. I do know it is done when there is a nice balance of chaos and calm, just like nature. Future work will be focused on size and thoughts of three dimensional sculpture. To submerge myself into something larger than my body makes me giddy! The reality of actually walking inside the painting could come true!
