There are so many reasons to love THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, chief among them being Ms. Mary Louise Streep’s utter weaponization of the word “cerulean” — and pretty much every one of her fierce lines of dialog and cutting stares in this modern fashion-on-film classic. Then there’s that scene- and heart-stealer Stanley Tucci. Oh, and Emily Blunt as the best frenemy a gal could ever have.
The story? Well… Anne Hathaway is Andy, a fresh-faced grad who lands a gig working for illustrious fashion mag editrix Miranda Priestley (Streep). If Andy can survive the year working for Miranda, it’s pretty much a guaranteed fast-track for her journalism career. But that turns out to be a pretty big IF for fashion-clueless Andy who’s quickly thrown into world of heel-wearing, latte-fetching, and catering to Miranda’s demands.
Whip-smart, genuinely funny, packed with ample style and the aforementioned memorable performances, a night spent with THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA is pretty much the next best thing to Fashion Week and a whole lot more affordable.
