Class description and curriculum:
The class is designed to give students a basic knowledge of the philosophies behind veganism, the benefits of a plant-based diet, and the environmental impact of animal agriculture. We welcome veg-curious novices interested in plant-based nutrition, animal lovers, omnivores who care about the environment, or long-time vegans who may feel that they have a few gaps in their knowledge—basically anyone!

Session 1: September 14--Frequently asked questions and how to respond when your friends and family ask, «Where do you get your protein and how do you know plants don't have feelings?»

Session 2: September 21--The anatomy of herbivores vs the anatomy of omnivores and carnivores

Session 3: September 28--Vegan Health with guest speaker Candice Billings. About Candice: candicebillings.com/nutrition

Session 4: October 5--Animals and Philosophy: From ancient vegetarians to the modern animal rights movement

Session 5: October 12--The environmental impact of animal agriculture

Session 6: October 19--Vegan living. This class will consist of a panel of vegans discussing their every day experiences. Topics will include student life, vegan parenting, and ways of handling a variety of social and professional situations while maintaining a vegan lifestyle. There may also be a basic cooking demonstration if the facilities are adequate. Panelists include Voice for Animals Board member, Christie Carter, nutritionist Candice Billings, and Macy Marriott.
