Join in on the KC Artists’ Healthcare Forum in collaboration with the Wyandotte Community Health Council + KU Med inside Care, A Performance at La Esquina on Wednesday July 19th.
*What are your immediate needs in terms of health and healthcare?
*What could you offer in a system of exchange and wellness for Kansas Citians inside and outside of the arts community?
Get answers to questions and connections to resources about your immediate healthcare needs. We’ll talk about what artists need in terms of care, and what artists can provide for each other and others through group discussion and a series of speed-date style meetings with healthcare professionals. This event will also help insurance providers and health professionals understand the current care related needs of the Kansas City arts community to discover how we might move towards a healthier future together.
The KC Artists’ Healthcare Forum with the Wyandotte Community Health Council + KU Collaborative sees artistic expression as something that contributes to the overall health of Kansas City. The greater Kansas City area has about 6,500 working artists and collectively they generate nearly $70 million in revenue per year (this is not including ticket sales or arts + culture organizations). However, national health data suggests that artists are 2.4 times more likely to be uninsured than non-artists. CHC + KU Collaborative seeks to understand what artists see as challenges to health, how artists feel about their respective situations, and what actions they believe would help improve their quality of life.
